LCD Soundsystem 'Long Goodbye' Exhibition to Be Held in New York

Record shop Rough Trade NYC is hosting an LCD Soundsystem interactive gallery beginning Monday, April 7th, in anticipation of the band's posthumous release The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden. The exhibit will display the "sounds, sights and emotions" of the band's nearly four-hour farewell concert, which took place on April 2nd, 2011, via videos, photos and music.

The gallery will feature turntables that attendees can use to play advance copies of the box set and never-before-seen 4"x6" prints of images by photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya. The photos will be available for people to take, with new photos replenished weekly. The exhibition runs from April 7th through May 7th.

The vinyl release 'The Long Goodbye' comes out on Record Store Day, April 19th, and contains every note the band played that night on five LPs. LCD frontman James Murphy told Rolling Stone last year that the creation of the record – versus making the concert film Shut Up and Play the Hits – was a "comedy of errors." "The film is mixed for your eye and the record is mixed for your ears," he said. "The film is mixed digitally, because you have to watch it in a theater and make little adjustments all the way through for a four-hour film, whereas the record is just mixed analog to tape, the way I normally do. But it took forever, because I'm not really on a label anymore." (via)
