Kurt Cobain's hometown of Aberdeen, Wash., will celebrate "Kurt Cobain Day" this Feb. 20.
According to Rolling Stone, the Aberdeen city council and Mayor Bill Simpson voted in favor of making the day a commemorative, annual event in honor of the Nirvana frontman, celebrated each year on his birthday.
"Aberdeen residents may justifiably take pride in the role our community played in the life of Kurt Cobain and the international recognition our community has gained from its connections with Kurt Cobain and his artistic achievements," a statement made by the city, as reported on KXRO, read.
It's especially hilarious for Aberdeen to take such a back-slapping position on this, considering that Cobain hated Aberdeen, referred to its residents as “rednecks”, his schoolmates as “f*cking jocks” and the town itself as “Twin Peaks without the excitement.”
