Cat Art Show Los Angeles will debut this Saturday over 100 feline-inspired works of art by world-famous artists including Shepard Fairey, Mark Ryden, Noel Fielding, Mercedes Helnwein, Gary Baseman, and Brandon Boyd. Both a meditation and a celebration of the feline form, Cat Art Show Los Angeles examines the cat’s longstanding role as muse and inspiration for artists.
Cats may not be man’s best friend, but they have spurred countless memes and viral videos from the likes of Grumpy Cat and Colonel Meow. For many of the exhibiting artists, including Jonathan Gent and FAILE, this is their first time creating a cat-themed work of art. Some of the artists are even allergic to cats and consider themselves “dog people,” but can’t deny the beauty of the feline form. Many explore the aloof yet alluring qualities of these four-legged muses who have been the focal point of classic masterpieces from Renoir and Picasso.
These are a few of the artists from the group exhibition: Ingrid Allen, Jamie Fales, Jason Shawn Alexander, Jay Batlle, Jenny Parks, Jill Greenberg, Joann Biondi, Jonathan Yeo, Joshua Petker, JOW, Justin Bower, Katherine Streeter, Kathleen Melian, Ken Solomon, Kevin Earl Taylor, Kimberly Brooks, Langley Fox, Larissa Bates, Lisa Borgnes Giramonti, Liz Markus, Luke Chueh, Ly Quan, Marc Dennis, Marion Peck, Martin Eder, Mattia Biagi, Melinda Lerner, Michael Wolf, Misako Inaoka, Natalia Fabia, Nicholas Bowers, Nicholas Chistiakov, Rachel Schlueter, Ramsey Dau, Ray Caesar, Rebecca Urias, Rob Reger, Robert Standish, Ryan Metke, Sage Vaughn, and Scott Stulen.
The opening reception at 101/exhibit will be the largest multi-artist exhibition of cat artwork for sale ever exhibited, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Stray Cat Alliance. The exhibit will also be on display January 26, February 1, and February 2 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission. www.catartshowla.com
